A Bag Of Hammers is about to hit theaters on May 11th 2012. A Bag Of Hammers is a debut film of Brian Crano and is a story based on two charming grifters who are making a good sum of money by stealing cars. Everything changes when they meet young Kelsey who is on the road where they are going. This comedy/drama is an independent film written by Brian Crano and Jake Sandvig. Let’s take a look at what people can expect on this upcoming movie “A Bag Of Hammers”
“A Bag Of Hammers: A Definite Keeper
So many trailers are flooding across the Internet that it’s difficult to keep track of what’s going on. But this one crossed my path this morning, and as with most independent films, it looks like a keeper.
“A Bag of Hammers” stars Jason Ritter (“The Event”), Jake Sandvig (“Easy A”), Rebecca Hall (“The Town”, “Everything Must Go”) and young Chandler Canterbury in another version of the coming-of-age tale we all love. We’ve seen the basic plot before. Irresponsible character that might be at a low point comes upon an underprivileged or neglected youth, takes on responsibility of caring for said underprivileged youth, there are highs and lows, but everyone learns valuable lessons. Hell, “Big Daddy” even followed this same basic formula.
In this film, Ritter and Sandvig are small-time thieves who steal cars at funerals and make quick cash in other ways. Neither are ready for the real world. Then one day, a young boy (Canterbury) walks into their yard when he should be at school. Turns out, the boy’s mother is divorced and highly neglectful. So the young men take the child in and get some help from a struggling waitress (Hall) along the way. I’ll let the trailer tell the story more adequately:
This one looks like it will pack some serious heartfelt moments when it’s not funny and snarky. The level of emotion from Canterbury and the sincerity displayed by Ritter and Sandvig made it seem like the film will be able to tug on heart strings. But it also looks like it will sprinkle enough comedy in there, and based on the scenes shown in the trailer, it looks like those will be very funny indeed. There is a certain charm exuded by them both that looks like it will be enough to carry the film’s plot.
Rebecca Hall is one of my favorite actresses, and I think she is very underrated. She was terrific in films like “The Town” and “Everything Must Go”, and in the latter showed she can play the light and heavy side more than adequately. I also love seeing Amanda Seyfried pop up for a bit in the trailer. Seeing her in a small, limited role like this might cleanse the palate from some of her recent misses at the box office.”
