Movie Insider – Lightning McQueen & Mater Are Back!
The race is on…AGAIN! Only this time, the plot thickens – Racing Superstar Icon Lightning McQueen (voice of Owen Wilson) and his best friend Mater (voice of Larry the cable guy) level up to an international adventure, equipped with their passports this time; as they prep up to go into battle against the finest and fastest cars in the world in the Cars 2 movie!
Cars 2, is the sequel to the Disney Pixar Cars high-octane saga that would surely keep you closer to the edge. The Cars 2 trailer shows off a glimpse of the 5 countries – France, Italy, Germany, the United Kingdom and Japan – where the 5 circuit race of champions would take place in and a bit of the action .
The original Disney Pixar Cars movie gave us a number of loved and unforgettable movie figures of modern days. Almost all children, along with surprisingly a lot of adults, can name at least a couple of the Cars characters without thinking twice – characters such as Lightning McQueen; the newest rookie racing hotshot sensation, Mater; Mac (the superliner truck that transports Lightning Mc Queen’s trailer). These are only some of the characters that have come to be household names all over the world and, when Cars 2 is released in June 2011, the thrill, anticipation, excitement, and the magic of car racing is set to happen all over again and new characters would surely win the hearts of the viewers in no time.
Some of the original cast – namely Sally Carrera (voice of Bonnie Hunt) who happens to be Lightning McQueen’s love interest and a Radiator Springs’ attorney, together with new cast members of the pit crew Luigi (voice of Tony Shaloub), Ramone(voice of Cheech Marin), and Mack (voice of John Ratzenberger) – are still part of the cast of the the Cars 2 sequel.
Although the plot of the new Cars 2 movie has been spilled out by none other than its director John Lasseter during the Disney presentation held at London Leicester Square last September, the mystery of who would be the voice behind the new character, Brit Secret Agent Fin McMissile, remains a teaser. Rumors and speculations are out that they have chosen one of the “Bonds” to portray and be the voice of Fin – the unveiling of his identity will of course happen after you have seen the movie, but I suspect even earlier than that.
Superstar race car Lightning McQueen and the incomparable tow truck Mater decided to take their friendship up to a new level and exciting new places in “Cars 2″. They grabbed their passports and headed overseas to compete in the very first World Grand Prix and claim the fame of having the world’s fastest car title. However, the road toward the championship is filled with a lot of potholes, surprises and detours. Mater got caught up in an intriguing adventure of international espionage.
Torn between assisting McQueen in the worldwide high-profile race of champions and taking on the challenge of taking part in a top-secret spy mission, Mater’s action-filled journey lead him on a explosive chase through the streets of Japan while being trailed by and watched by the whole world. Joining the fast-paced fun is a colorful new all-car cast of secret agents, international competitors, menacing villains and international racing competitors.
The original Cars movie earned Oscar nominations for songs in their soundtrack. Will Randy Newman and Glen Lajesky earn the same recognition for the Cars 2 soundtrack as well? They can just hope that the songs of John Mayer, Chuck Berry, James “J.T.” Taylor, and Sheryl Crow, to name a few of the artists who sang songs, would bag the bonus this time around.
The movie is set to be released on June 24, 2011. The movie was directed by John Lasseter and Ratatouille producer Brad Lewis. This is Lewis’ directorial debut for Pixar. Cars 2 is produced by Pixar Animation Studios and Distributed by Audio Visual Enterprises (Greece) and Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures (Argentina).
