Chronicle is a science fiction film that bears the warning “Be careful what you wish for”. Chronicle is directed by Josh Trank who help create the story with screenplay writer Max Landis. This film is Josh Trank’s first directing debut in the big screen. He is known for his previous work on the TV series “The Kill Point” and worked as the editor in a sport’s drama called “Big Fan”. He is also rumored to be the next director of the Fanstastic Four series. But anyway, going back to his new and upcoming film Chronicle it seems that he is yet to prove his directing prowess in this movie. Chronicle is produced by Adam Schroeder Productions and Davis Entertainments.
The trailer of the movie Chronicle starts with three teenagers filming their day to day activities. It may seem like your normal “found footage” movie flick but there is more to the story that meets the eye. These youngsters found a mysterious crater in the woods that led them to gain extraordinary powers. The three teenagers started developing their new found abilities: telekinesis, invulnerability and flight. The flow of the story may have you thinking that these are luckiest kids in the world. Hey, couldn’t blame you because who wouldn’t want to have extraordinary powers right? Although as the plot of the story thickens, one of the gifted kids accidentally maneuvers a car to crash with his mind. Or was it accidental? Now the group has to reevaluate the way they have been acting with their newly acquired super powers. Are they using it for good or just to fool around? Chronicle will have you thinking about wanting to be a superhero and the risks of getting immeasurable abilities. After all, we are all capable of doing great things and something really bad. Mixing this vulnerability with super powers can be a recipe for disaster.
Chronicle features the young actors namely: Michael B. Jordan, Dane DeHaan, Alex Russell, Michael Kelly and Ashley Hinshaw. Chronicle will bring you to the dark side, on how tempting it is to become evil especially if you can actually get away with it. So is it getting any hard hitting news or expectations from audiences and critics? Actually, people are watching how Chronicle will pan out since the director Josh Trank is rumored to be the next director of the FF series. According to a previous article from Los Angeles Times, they said: While this sort of shaky-cam, found-footage-y storytelling can be a mixed bag, there’s certainly plenty here to intrigue. For starters, the superpowers are, refreshingly, used not for some kind of global domination but for seemingly ordinary teenage pranks — and then, as the stakes rise, for something more dangerous (but still human).
Variety News also shared an article stating that Fox is waiting eagerly on Josh Trank’s film: Chronicle. Here is a quote from the article: Trank has had several meetings regarding the “Fantastic Four” project, but with his debut feature still three weeks away, Fox is expected to wait to see how “Chronicle” opens over Super Bowl weekend before extending an official offer.
We don’t have to wait for a long time to experience this new twist to science fiction films. Chronicle will come blasting through the big screen on February 3rd 2012.
