Coriolanus: An Epic Drama By Ralph Fiennes

Coriolanus will bring Shakespearian fans a new experience that will catch their hearts this January. Coriolanus is an adaptation of the tragedy tale written by William Shakespeare between 1605 and 1608. The movie is based on the life story of a Roman hero Caius Martius Coriolanus. Coriolanus is directed by Oscar nominated actor Ralph Fiennes. He will bring you a brand new story of political struggle and experience drama at its best. Ralph Fiennes is also portraying the role of Caius Martius Coriolanus, the main character of the movie. Betrayed and banished, Coriolanus aligns himself with his sworn enemy, Tullus Aufidius (Butler) so he can take revenge on the city. The film is also the debut of Ralph Fiennes as a director while John Logan wrote the screenplay.

Coriolanus features Ralph Fiennes as Caius Martius Coriolanus, Gerald Butler portraying Tullus Aufidius, Brian Cox as Menenius, Vanessa Redgrave as Volumnia and are joined by other amazing actors as well.  Coriolanus is an entry last February 14th 2011 at the Berlin International Film Festival where it was nominated for the Golden Berlin Bear award. On the 25th of December 2011 it was released in Canada and on January 20th 2012 it will grace the silver screen of the United States. Production companies worked hand in hand to bring the Coriolanus movie into existence. These companies are namely: Magna Films, Hermetof Pictures, Lipsync Productions, Icon Entertainment International, BBC Films, Lonely Dragon, Artemis Film and so much more. Since this movie was an entry for the Berlin International Film Festival, it has accumulated a total of 10 awards from different film associations. Some of these awards consisted of the Breakthrough Artist Award from Austin Film Critics Association, British Independent Film Award for Best Supporting Actress, Hollywood Breakthrough Award in the Hollywood Film Festival and so much more.

Coriolanus did not only garner awards but it also grabbed the attention of critics all over the world. Chris Barsanti from Filmcritics.com gave a piece of his mind about Coriolanus. He said: “Fiennes has turned out a well-crafted and passionately acted drama about power and its dangers that should serve as a model for how to perform Shakespeare on screen.” This film critic gave the Coriolanus movie a score of 3 ½ stars. Matthew Pejkovic of Matt’s Movie Reviews also commended Ralph Fiennes on his portrayal and directing skills in the movie Coriolanus. He said that “Ralph Fiennes delivers an intense turn in front of the camera while proving his worth as a filmmaker in the passionate and relevant political war thriller Coriolanus.” There a various critiques on Coriolanus and it can be noted that the consensus gives it an A+. Although, there are still some critics who were not utterly pleased with the Coriolanus movie. Here is a quick review of Kyle Smith of the New York Post: “In attempting to update the play to a buzzing CNN world, Ralph Fiennes proves that as a director, he makes a fine actor.” Despite all these different views, the audience will surely be given a whole new experience when it comes to ancient Rome and the struggle of a man in the political era.
