Gambit: New Movie Starring Colin Firth and Cameron Diaz

Gambit is an upcoming American and British comedy that will star Academy Award winner Colin Firth, Cameron Diaz and Alan Rickman. Gambit is directed by Michael Hoffman and this version is written by Joel and Ethan Coen. This new movie is actually a remake of the 1966 movie which has the same title and features Michael Caine and Shirley MacLaine. Gambit was first scheduled to be released in the US on October 12th 2012 but the date has now been set for 2013. Gambit will however be shown in the United Kingdom on November 21st 2012. Yes, Gambit is a remake of the 1966 Michael Caine-Shirley MacLaine film of the same name, but from the first trailer, it seems that there are many other influences at work here.

It’s hard to tell exactly from any two minute clip, but this cinematic stew also contains powerful hints ofOceans Eleven, Raising Arizona and The King’s Speech. And why shouldn’t it? After all, the film, about a contemptible CEO’s loyal and long-suffering assistant, who finally snaps and hatches a scheme to sell him a fake painting and pocket the cash for the real one, was written by Joel and Ethan Coen, starsColin Firth and features Cameron Diaz as a quirky, scheming bumpkin.

Alan Rickman also features in the film, as the aforementioned CEO, who is largely Snape without the cape (a Harry Potter reference, if you weren’t sure). Supporting in the Michael Hoffman-directed film are a well-disguised Stanley Tucci and Cloris Leachman.CBS is distributing in America.”

The first trailer for Gambit is out and it features a nude Alan Rickman.

Gambit stars Colin Firth as Harry Deane, an art curator who tries to con England’s most powerful art collector (Rickman) into buying a fake Monet painting. To pull off the scheme, he hires an American rodeo queen (Cameron Diaz) to pretend to be the granddaughter of a WWII man who liberated the painting in question. The film is a remake of the 1966 movie starring Michael Caine and Shirley MacLaine. Check out the trailer below:

Firth signed on to Gambit around the time he accepted his Oscar for The King’s Speech. The script was penned by the Coen Brothers, who did a wonderful job reinventing the John Wayne Western True Grit,”
