Picking up right where Hatchet II left off, in which Marybeth (Danielle Harris) had blown Victor Crowley’s (Kane Hodder) head off at the end of Hatchet II, we see that he is in fact not dead. This leads to a battle between the two in which Crowley gets impaled on his own chainsaw. Marybeth then chops him up to bits, then walks into a police station covered in blood and says, “I killed him”. She is taken into custody. Soon after, Sheriff Fowler and his men go off into the swamp; where they find the grisly remains of Crowley’s victims.
While the Sherriff’s posse investigate the swamp area, Marybeth remains the prime suspect for the gruesome crimes. The sheriff’s ex-wife, Amanda (Caroline Williams), is working on a book about Crowley and goes to pay a visit to Marybeth at the holding cell in the police station. She wants to know what happened, and though reluctant at first, Marybeth gives in and tells her. She is confident that he is dead, but Amanda knows better. Of course, Crowley ultimately does return and racks up a new body count. Amanda believes she has a way to lay him down to rest once and for all, and to do it she will need Marybeth’s help. The two of them go with Deputy Winslow (Robert Diago DoQui) to finally try and put an end to this nightmare. But… will her plan be the one to finally end the monster’s life for good?
This break-neck paced, lightning-fast, third entry in the popular slasher series Hatchet could be seen as the Aliens entry in the franchise. While it’s nowhere near the level of greatness of that classic sequel, it is quite a bit of fun. The movie pretty much never lets up. In fact, it moves so fast that it feels like a shorter film than it actually is. It is almost as though the audience blinks, then it’s over, which is a high compliment as it is impossible to be bored as the film rolls on. Aside from being action-heavy, Hatchet III is also very funny. The dialogue is fun and quirky, and drops a ton of f-bombs in a real fun way. This film will almost certainly make most of the audience laugh.
The cast in Hatchet III is quite good and very likable. Returning Danielle Harris is very spunky in her role and looks cute as hell. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre pt. 2’s Caroline Williams is a total and complete blast to watch in this movie, and it is sheer pleasure seeing her in it. Sid Haig has a great and hilarious cameo as an asshole racist, and the cast includes other horror favorites Zach Galligan (Gremlins), Derek Mears (Friday the 13th 2009), and of course the returning Kane Hodder as Victor Crowley. He’s still awesome as this character.”
