The Golden Globe Awards always come every year with entertaining antics, speeches and memorable scenes. The Golden Globe Awards hit the stage this January 15th 2012 and the host of the evening was Ricky Gervais. Meryl Streep snagged the Best Actress award for The Iron Lady movie while George Clooney beat the rest in his performance at The Descendants. Meryl Streep, who played Margaret Thatcher was clearly overwhelmed by this win and she was not able to give the acceptance speech she prepared. She instead gave a compelling speech at the press room and talked about the women that inspired her in The Iron Lady movie.
Here’s a peak on an article from PopSugar.com:
“Meryl Streep stepped into the Golden Globes press room following her big win for The Iron Lady during this evening’s show. On stage she couldn’t give the speech she had planned since she forgot her glasses at the table, and while she almost gave it to the press room instead, she refrained. Instead, Meryl talked about women who inspire her, taking on the role of Margaret Thatcher, and what she’s working on now. Check it out:
On what she would ask Margaret Thatcher: I would be interested in what she thinks about Europe right now and the debt crisis and whether her views about any of that have evolved. It’s interesting how it’s coming to the same path. It interests me.
On taking on the role: Coming into this I had a very reductive view of Margret Thatcher. I did what we all do to political leaders we don’t agree with, turning them into something more than human and less than human at the same time. It was interesting to me to look at the human being behind all that, to look at the life that was so groundbreaking, in the winter of that life. To find a compassionate view of someone with whom I disagree.”

The 69th Golden Globe Awards is never complete without some memorable quotes from famous actors and actresses:
“Golden Globes are just like the Oscars without all that esteem. The Golden Globes are to the Oscars like Kim Kardashian is to Kate Middleton, bit louder, bit drunker, bit trashier, and more easily bought. Allegedly. Nothing’s been proved.” – Host Ricky Gervais, as he opens the show.
“I’d like to thank Michael Fassbender for taking over the frontal nude responsibility I had.” – George Clooney, accepting best actor, motion picture drama, for “The Descendants,” referring to the actor who plays a sex addict in “Shameless.”
“They write a Matt LeBlanc who, let’s be honest, is way more interesting and fun than the real thing. I wish I was him.” – Matt LeBlanc, accepting best actor/TV comedy-musical, for “Episodes” in which he plays a character named “Matt LeBlanc.”
“I was talking to my mother in Jersey before I came out, and she said, “Have fun, but have you seen `Mildred Pierce’? Guy Pearce is so good. He’s going to win.’ So I haven’t seen `Mildred Pierce,’ but I’m sure it’s really good, and I just love our moms because they keep us humble” – Peter Dinklage, on accepting best supporting actor, TV miniseries, drama, for “Games of Thrones,” referring to Pearce, one of his competitors for the award”
