Olympus Has Fallen

Olympus Has Fallen Movie Trailer Olympus Has Fallen

Olympus Has Fallen

If there were such a thing as a spring blockbuster, the upcoming film Olympus Has Fallen would certainly fit the category. Despite its relative lack of hype, the film has the big names, over-the-top plot, and intensity of a summer blockbuster, but it will hit several months prior on March 22nd. This means that audiences don’t have long to wait to experience what looks to be an epic action movie.

When you watch the trailer of Olympus Has Fallen, you might be reminded of Die Hard. Terrorists have taken over the White House and kidnapped the President (okay, that part wasn’t in die Hard, but everything else is pretty similar, but one man has slipped through their fingers and is now picking them apart one by one. That man is Mike Banning played by Gerard Butler, a secret security officer who struggles with regret after a tragic accident involving the President results in Banning’s release from the elite security detail. Now back at the White House, he becomes the only one that can prevent the situation from escalating. It is up to Banning to take out the terrorists and rescue the President.

Early Trailers hint at an even bigger plot than the takeover of the White House. If things get out of hand, the world could be on the brink of war. At least, that is what the Trailer wants us to believe. The movie’s tagline, “When our flag falls, our nation will rise,” also suggest something bigger than the standard President kidnapping plot. Just as John McClane scaled the Nokatomi Plaza in 1988, so Mike Banning will fight, shoot, and battle his way through the White House. If it comes close to the quality of Die Hard, audiences should be very, very excited.

Speaker Trumbull, played by the all-time great Morgan Freeman, is thrust into the role of Commander in Chief when the President is taken hostage. Along with Butler and Freeman, the cast is loaded with big-time talent including Dylan McDermott (The Perks of Being a Wallflower), Radha Mitchell (Silent Hill), Melissa Leo (The Fighter), and Cole Hauser (The Chronicles of Riddick). Aaron Eckhart, who you may remember as Harvey Dent in The Dark Knight, plays President Asher, and Ashley Judd (Missing) is the First Lady. Olympus Has Fallen even has a big-time director in Antoine Fuqua, whose credits include Training Day (2001), Tears of the Sun (2003), and Shooter (2007). The foundation is set for what could be one of the biggest and best action films of the year.

Olympus has Fallen is being produced by Millennium Films and distributed by FilmDistrict. The film has not yet been given a rating by the MPAA, but audiences can expect at least a PG-13. Reviews of the film are not yet available, but expect them to come in the weeks leading up its release window.
