“Red Dawn: Ramping Up Patriotism With Its New Trailer
Red Dawn came out a while ago: 1984, to be exact, where C. Thomas Howell and Patrick Swayze rose up and defended their Midwestern town from invading Soviets at the height of the Cold War. The new Red Dawnalso wrapped production a while ago, and has been sitting on the shelf for some time as MGM figured out its business and mapped out distribution. FilmDistrict stepped up, and now plans to get the film into theaters on Nov. 21. The latest trailer plays up the patriotism, introduces the new Wolverines, and triggers a hell of a lot of war-time destruction.
Dan Bradley – a stunt coordinator on the Bourne movies and Sam Raimi’sSpider-Man movies, to name just a few – makes his directorial debut with this Red Dawn remake, which changes the Russians of the original to North Koreans. Still Commies, still “Red,” so to speak. Hopefully there’s a better explanation as to why the enemies suddenly target an American small town, because that fact is overlooked in the first Red Dawn movie.
But the remake still stands apart for the fact that its cast has gone on to become gigantic because of other films they completed while waiting forRed Dawn to come out, and that’s fascinating. Chris Hemsworth’s star shines bright because of Thor, The Avengers and even Snow White and the Huntsman. Josh Hutcherson has a number of impressive films on his resume, though none are as huge as The Hunger Games. Even Adrianne Palicki has made a name for herself in Friday Night Lights and Supernatural. Will they now be know for Red Dawn? Perhaps. We’ll know when it comes out in a few weeks.”

“First Look at Red Dawn
Red Dawn is finally invading theaters, and we’ve got the photographic evidence to prove it.
The remake of the 1984 film was filmed in 2009, but was famously held up because of MGM’s financial woes. The filmmakers later digitally edited the film’s invaders to make them North Korean. (They were originally Chinese.)
In the intervening years, Red Dawn has retroactively become a franchise crossover of sorts, with The Avengers’ Chris Hemsworth and The Hunger Games’ Josh Hutcherson in starring roles. Josh Peck plays the third in a group of close friends who wake up one morning to find their Washington town — and the U.S. — under siege from foreign invaders.
Judging from the photos, the boys don’t like this one bit. They form a band of guerrilla fighters called the Wolverines in an attempt to win back their town’s freedom.
The film hits theaters Nov. 21 and also stars Adrianne Palicki (Friday Night Lights),Isabel Lucas (Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen),Connor Cruise (Seven Pounds) and Jeffrey Dean Morgan (Watchmen). Dan Bradley is directing.”
