The trailer of The Five Year Engagement starts off with a couple who seems to be so in love with each other. Tom Solomon played by Jason Segel proposes to his girlfriend Violet Barnes (Emily Blunt). The happy couple gets really excited with this new stage in their lives. They soon start making arrangements to announce their engagement to their friends and families. All seems well until Violet gets accepted at a job that will take two years to finish. Tom being ever so loving, says that two years is nothing and they can just easily get back to planning the wedding in no time. They move on to delay the wedding for a couple of years until Violet gets a promotion which means that the long awaited wedding is going to be delayed yet again. Tom and Violet must get over the obstacles in their lives and the new beginnings that are pouring in. Constantly asked by their families if the wedding is really going to happen, the couple gets so much pressure in the process. The Five Year Engagement will surely tickle your funny bones and your heart as Tom and Violet overcomes obstacles in their wedding plans.
Funny man Jason Segel and adorable Emily Blunt will be playing the couple in this comedy film. They will also be joined by Chris Pratt who plays the character Alex Eilhauer, Alison Brie as Suzie Barnes, Rhys Ifans as Winton Childs and Jacki Weaver as Sylvia Dickerson-Barnes. The Five Year Engagement is produced by Apatow Productions and distributed by Universal Pictures. This romantic comedy is written by actor Jason Segel and director, Nicholas Stoller. There are currently early reviews for The Five Year Engagement since it premiered last Wednesday in the Tribeca Film Festival. According to John DeFore: The Five-Year Engagement originates with a pre-mythologized meet-cute and ends with Hollywood whimsy but insists on making the hurdles between as little like rom-com contrivance as the filmmakers can get away with.
Another critic, Edward Douglas also gave his early critique on the movie “The Five Year Engagement: One of the more palatable relationship comedies due to the notable chemistry between Segel and Blunt and a supporting cast who are constantly stealing scenes.
