From 2005 to 2016, the pair we affectionately dubbed “Brangelina” were the most-talked-about couple in Hollywood. From their flawless looks to their Oscar-winning talent, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie were thought to be the epitome of #RelationshipGoals.
But then the utterly unexpected happened just two years after the pair finally got hitched in 2014. Jolie filed for divorce and left us all wondering what it was that destroyed their once solid relationship. Unfortunately, Jolie tends to keep any discussion about her kids and her relationship with ex-husband Brad Pitt entirely under wraps. So it is a rare event when she decides to open up about her personal life. Well, it turns out that she has decided to do just that in a recent podcast interview. You may know that Jolie has turned her hand to other projects including movie directing. One of the most recent movies that she worked on is First They Killed My Father which was released on Netflix last September. It turns out that the movie was pretty well received by the critics. So in a recent interview on The Hollywood Reporter‘s podcast Awards Chatter, she discussed the movie and a load of other juicy topics in great detail. Incredibly, Jolie even opened up about how her relationship with Brad Pitt broke down and contrary to what you may have thought, it had a little something to do with her double mastectomy amongst other things… Back in 2013, a then 37-year-old Angelina Jolie’s health problems were highly publicised. Her family has a history of breast cancer which really alarmed the mom-of-six, so she decided to get a double mastectomy to reduce her chances of developing the disease. Her own mother, Marcheline Bertrand, had breast cancer which she managed to fight, but, unfortunately, she later died from ovarian cancer. Jolie made the incredibly brave decision to undergo a preventive double mastectomy after finding out she had inherited the BRCA gene, a faulty gene which meant that she had an 87% chance of developing cancer. Just two years after the double mastectomy, doctors told Jolie that test results were showing signs of ovarian cancer in her system. As a result, she made the brave decision to have her ovaries and fallopian tubes surgically removed. At the time, it was reported that her husband, Brad Pitt, was nothing but supportive. However, we could never really know what was going on behind closed doors. According to the Maleficent actress, her health scares were putting an irrevocable strain on her marriage. “I’ve had many, many extraordinary very fortunate things happen and it’s also been many things over the years that had been challenging. So that wasn’t a particular time when I wrote it… I had my mastectomy right before I had Unbroken,” the actress revealed. “Over the span of that decade, I did lose my mother. I did have my mastectomy, and I did then have an ovarian cancer scare and have that surgery as well, and other things of course that happened in life that you go through.” In 2015, Jolie and Pitt worked together on the movie By The Sea in an attempt to “heal” their marriage which was threatening to break down. “A piece of art can be something that’s healing or something that’s difficult. I don’t know.” “I’m glad we did that film because we did explore something together,” she said. “Whatever it was maybe it didn’t solve certain things, but we did communicate something that needed to be communicated to each other.” “We had met working together and we worked together well… I wanted us to do some serious work together… I thought it would be a good way for us to communicate. In some ways it was, and in some ways, we learned some things.” “But there was a heaviness probably during that situation that carried on and it wasn’t because of the [movie]. It was something that we were dealing… things happen for different reasons, and things… why did I write that exact piece? Why did we feel that way when we made it? I’m not sure.” Needless to say, Angelina Jolie has gone through a tough few years. Fearing for your health when you have young children must be incredibly difficult – especially if that ultimately leads to the breakdown of your marriage Unfortunately, anyone who knows anything about Jolie’s early life will be aware that she has had to contend with a great deal of emotional pain and numerous setbacks throughout her life. Check out her story in the video below: We wish Jolie, her children and, of course, Brad Pitt the best of luck for their future health and happiness.
Lady Gaga wins her first Oscar for ‘Shallow’
Lady Gaga won her first Oscar at the 91st Annual Academy Awards.
“Lady Gaga is an Academy Award winner, folks.
The best song of the year, “Shallow” from A Star Is Born, earned Lady Gaga an Oscar at the 91st Academy Awards on Sunday night, marking the first time the music legend has earned an Oscar. She shared the honor with co-writers Mark Daniel Ronson, Anthony Rossomando, and Andrew Wyatt.
I mean, come on, listen to this:
“I worked hard for a long time and it’s not about winning, but what’s about is not giving up,” Lady Gaga said in her acceptance speech. “If you have a dream, fight for it.”
Lady Gaga is also up for the Oscar for Best Actress for her performance in A Star Is Born, the first person to ever be nominated for both awards on the same night. Earlier in February, Lady Gaga was nominated for four Grammys for the song “Shallow” and won two.
A Star Is Born was up for eight awards in total at the Oscars, and the award for Best Original Song was the film’s first of the night.
Lady Gaga received her first and only other Oscar nomination in 2016 for the song, “Til It Happens to You,” for the documentary The Hunting Ground.”
Bradley Cooper shares how he altered his voice for ‘A Star Is Born’
“Of all the enchanting things about A Star is Born, one of the most mesmerising has to be Bradley Cooper’s distinctly low voice that he manages to maintain throughout the movie.
Well, Cooper let Stephen Colbert in on his secret for how he trained his voice to plummet to new vocal depths. Turns out he drew inspiration from his co-star Sam Elliott.
“One of the things, I knew I wanted to lower my voice. But I didn’t want to make him too country,” said Cooper. “Sam Elliott is from Sacramento but his mother was from Texas, so he has this accent that you can’t quite place. But it’s so wonderfully iconic.”
Cooper says in order to achieve the Elliott-esque low voice, he’d do a warmup using a tagline. But for the first six months, he could only do it while hunched over.
“I would go to sleep and my throat would hurt and I thought, well this is never gonna happen. That was what I was most terrified of, was his voice,” Cooper said. “I always had this warmup line which was a line from an interview [Elliott] did at Sundance which I played him when he came over to my house.”
Cooper performed his warmup in the video above using the tagline: “this part here is about as good as it gets for me”.
Goodness me, someone give that man an Oscar.”
What happened when M. Night Shyamalan told his dad he got into film school
“M. Night Shyamalan’s dad is so proud of his son these days that he apparently pays for everything — even gum — with a credit card — just so people will see his last name.
But it wasn’t always that way. Back when a young M. Night Shyamalan first broke the news of his showbiz career plans to his family — who are all doctors — his father wasn’t exactly impressed.
“My dad was watching a hockey game and I said, ‘Dad I applied to NYU film school, I got in as a scholarship, and I’m gonna go’, and he didn’t even look at me,” Shyamalan tells Stephen Colbert in the clip above. “He just kept watching the game.”
Still, at least it all worked out in the end.”
