The series revolves around a young, recently widowed African-American mother who discovers her son has magical powers. Her struggle with being a single mother is compounded by her need to teach Dion how to handle his supernatural skills and her search for answers about the source of his abilities, with help from her late husband’s best friend.

Veteran showrunner Carol Barbee has joined the project and penned the first episode of “Raising Dion,” to be helmed by Liu. Actor Michael B. Jordan is on board as an exec producer through his Outlier Society Productions; he will also appear as Dion’s dead father. Macro’s Charles D. King, Kim Roth and Poppy Hanks are exec producers with Kenny Goodman and Michael Green.

“I started this project many years ago because I wanted to see more diverse representation on film and television and I’m excited to partner with Netflix, who I know shares that commitment,” Liu said. “More than ever, we need more stories told from different points of view and my hope with ‘Raising Dion’ is to create a cinematic experience for all families that will lift your spirits and make you laugh and cry.”

Cindy Holland, Netflix’s VP of original content, said she was intrigued by “Dion’s” real-world spin on a supernatural theme.

“We haven’t seen this type of superhero story before — an origin myth full of imagination, wonder and adventure, all grounded in the experiences of a modern single mother,” said Holland. “Michael B. Jordan is an exciting and dynamic talent, and I’m excited to see him, Macro, Carol and the team translate Dennis’ unique vision to television.”

If you’re a fan of the sitcom Sabrina the Teenage Witch…Netflix’s Chilling Adventures of Sabrina may not be for you.

The first trailer for this dark take on the powerful teen (from the makers of Riverdale) promises creepy woods, minotaurs, the occult, and a terrifying cover of “Happy Birthday.” And it’s just a teaser!

Chilling Adventures of Sabrina stars Kiernan Shipka (Mad Men), whose half-human half-witch identity clashes along with the magical and mortal worlds. A far cry from its ’90s cousin, Netflix describes CAOS as “tonally in the vein of Rosemary’s Baby and The Exorcist.” So…no animatronic cat?

Chilling Adventures of Sabrina hits Netflix Oct. 26.

“Quincy Jones has too many awards, accolades, and accomplishments to list.

And the legendary musician and film producer’s upcoming Netflix documentary, directed by his own daughter Rashida Jones, features almost as many stars.

The trailer for Quincy shines a spotlight on the influence he had on some of the most talented people in the entire entertainment industry: Oprah Winfrey, Kendrick Lamar, Will Smith, Lady Gaga. And we heard a little Barack Obama moment in there too.

But the doc appears to focus on his life both before and after becoming the iconic Quincy Jones.

You can catch it on Netflix Sept. 21.”
