The Weinstein Co. Nears The Brink As Agencies Cut Off Talent Supply

The dumpster fire that is the Harvey Weinstein scandal will continue to burn awhile longer, as victims and outraged industry members weigh in with statements of outrage over the sickening allegations of sexual harassment and rape. Yet, already the industry has turned to the discussion of the dire future prospects of The Weinstein Company, even after it gets a new name and Harvey Weinstein is scrubbed from the credits of films and TV projects.

Late last week, the town seemed willing to hang in with the production company if Weinstein was fired, giving co-chairman Bob Weinstein and COO David Glasser the chance to keep the company moving forward on its TV and movie projects, and keep the 190 staffers from heading to the exits. This was after the first New York Times article. But there has been one devastating blow after the other in the days following that have eroded much of that good will for a post-Weinstein rebound. The first serious wound came with Ronan Farrow’s The New Yorker article, with descriptions of rapes that were more than sickening; they were terrifying. Two days after the board of directors issued a statement that its members had no idea of the allegations of abuse by Weinstein, TNY today quoted board member Lance Maerov admitting he had heard of multiple settlements. Even though he added he believed they were for consensual affairs and the desire to eliminate legal liability (and some believe his admission got mangled in translation, because at least two of the matters were investigated by TWC’s HR department, several major agents today said they had lost faith in the company’s mixed messaging).

Agents did not want to be on record, but reactions ranged from not wanting to risk the wrath of clients in the event or more fallout by putting them into TWC projects, and others said that if there was evidence of Weinstein benefiting directly or indirectly in projects, the agencies wanted no part of it. They felt even a re-branded company will carry a tarnish, and hoped that projects would be sold off. This wasn’t unanimous; at least one said that if Bob Weinstein and Glasser could change the messaging, and make it clear that Harvey Weinstein’s indiscretions were not in fact covered up, forgiveness could come over time. Jason Momoa leads a memorable haka dance during ‘Aquaman’ premiere

So. Much. Power.

“Red carpets may have a reputation for being exclusive, glamorous affairs, but they aren’t always as exciting as they sound.

Ultimately it’s just a bunch of people in fancy clothes walking slowly along a road, right?

Well, not always. Not when Jason Momoa is involved.

Wednesday night marked the premiere of Aquaman in Los Angeles. And rather than just a simple, pose-for-photos-and-say-hi-to-fans type affair, this premiere had one key difference…

Yep: midway through the event, Jason Momoa suddenly stripped down to his vest to lead a haka, which included his two children and New Zealand actor Temuera Morrison, who plays his father in the movie and has Mori ancestors. In Mori culture, the haka is a traditional dance.

The performance lasted over two minutes, and involved the Hawaiian actor smashing his golden trident in half over his knee.

Yikes.

That’s certainly one way to make a red carpet more memorable.”

Stephen King tweets 5 words about the ‘IT’ sequel, instantly goes viral

Stephen King wants you to know the second part of ‘IT’ is on the way…

“It’s not often you find yourself eagerly awaiting a fresh glimpse of a nightmare-inducing clown, but here we are.

It’s now been well over a year since Andrés Muschietti’s IT adaptation giggled its way into theatres, before going on to smash the previous record for highest-grossing U.S. box office horror movie. Since then, we’ve had some good — if slightly far-off sounding — news: IT Chapter Two will be coming to theatres on 6 Sept. 2019.

Okay, so that may still be nine months away, but — judging by Stephen King’s recent tweet — we may be due a clown-themed surprise earlier than expected.

So, what exactly does that mean, then?

Well, if we had to guess, it seems likely that King has recently seen some promotional material relating to the film — possibly an image, or maybe even some early footage. Perhaps something that we may get to see ourselves before too long.

It certainly feels like we’re overdue some Pennywise…

Zac Efron just shared a new photo of himself as serial killer Ted Bundy

Published

on

“The last time we saw our favourite teen heartthrob Zac Efron, he was prancing around the stage in The Greatest Showman. But in his next movie, Zefron is taking it in a whole other direction.

The former High School Musical and Baywatch star just shared a new photo of himself in the upcoming movie Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile, where he portrays infamous American serial killer Ted Bundy.

Efron shared a photo of what appears to be Bundy in a courtroom, captioned “Ready for Sundance!”

Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile is set to premiere at the film festival in January 2019.

The movie tells the story of Ted Bundy from the perspective of his girlfriend Elizabeth Kloepfer, played by Lily Collins (daughter of Phil).

Real-life Ted Bundy murdered at least 30 women between 1973 and 1978. He was sentenced to death and died in the electric chair in the state of Florida in 1989.

If Zefron is as good at acting like a complete psychopath as he is at dancing, singing, and basketball, this movie’s bound to be good.”
