“This was a modern love story. Boy meets girl. Boys falls in love with girl. Boy marries girl. Girl cuts off boy’s penis.”
The Academy Award-winning Jordan Peele is taking on horror through a new lens, re-examining the infamous real-life trial of Lorena Bobbitt, a woman accused of violently assaulting her husband, John Wayne. While a verdict in the he-said-she-said 1993 case was reached decades ago, its perplexing details and emotional narrative have not been forgotten by modern true-crime fans.
The question has always remained: Why did Bobbitt do what she did? Peele aims to answer that question once and for all.
Lorena, Peele’s docuseries set to be released through Amazon Studios, offers additional context to the crime and seems to promise new interviews with both Bobbitt and Wayne. Notably, the series is poised to take a more sympathetic view of Bobbitt and the incident.
The four-part documentary, Lorena, begins streaming Feb. 15 through Prime Video.
More than 30m people have watched Netflix’s Murder Mystery; why?
The critics might have hated it, but this Jennifer Aniston and Adam Sandler-starring Agatha Christie pastiche broke the record for Netflix’s biggest opening weekend
Despite the critics (mostly) hating it, we now know that 30.9m Netflix account-holders watched Murder Mystery in its first three days of release. To put that in context: if two people watched the movie on each account, and you imagine them all paying the average $9 price of a cinema ticket, it would give the film an opening weekend of $556m, the third-largest ever. That is by no means a perfect formula, but nevertheless highlights a staggering performance for an Agatha Christie parody that stars Jennifer Aniston and Adam Sandler. How did that happen?
‘Claws’ is the juiciest summer drama you aren’t watching
“Claws is one of three excellent shows returning in the next week, in which the leading women are on a quest to empower themselves. Unlike HBO’s award-winning Big Little Lies or FX’s acclaimed Pose, however, this one will air relatively inconspicuously.
It’s a shame, because TNT’s boisterous crime drama retains the kooky vibe it’s hoisted itself on for the past two years.
Everything about Claws is unapologetically loud, from the storylines to the costumes to the dialogue to, obviously, the on-brand nails. It doesn’t hold back from its unconventional premise: Five manicurists run a salon in the trashy city of Palmetto, Florida, that’s actually a front to launder money for the local drug lord………………….”
